HI! I'M SONIA QUILES
Sonia Quiles was born in Lares, Puerto Rico, raised in San Sebastian, and endured the pain of a traumatic childhood and the loss of her mother at the age of 15. In 1995 she moved to Holyoke, MA with her 6-month-old daughter for a chance at a better life. That better life would not come without struggle, being in the states alone as a new mom, learning English, navigating the system for resources, getting her GED, surviving domestic violence, and eventually going to college. Sonia explains how the obstacles in her life shaped the woman and mother that she is today. Among other things, Sonia is a real estate agent, community activist, and host of her own show on the Digital BoomBox Network, Educate With Sonia. The show features guests with information on navigating social systems, provides resources and education, and encourages everyone to become engaged in their communities.
